What is CDAC

History of formation of C-DAC

The history of formation of CDAC is believed to be very interesting. CDAC was established because at one time the US government refused to give Cray supercomputer to India,Saying that India will use it to make nuclear weapons, being hurt by this, the Government of India decided that we have to make Supercomputers ourselves.

For this purpose, CDAC was established in 1988 as an Advanced Research and Development Center in India and named as Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC).

Since then, CDAC has been continuously working for its purpose, Dr. Ramani was the founding director of the CDAC, and on that time CDAC known as NCST ( National Center for Software Technology )  letter  CDAC, appointed Dr. Vijay Bhatkar was made the director of CDAC, under whose leadership CDAC started moving forward with its work. Gradually, CDAC accelerated its focus program, as a result of the same, India got the first Supercomputer in the form of Param 8000 i.e. PARAM 8000, India’s first Super Computer was developed by CDAC .
